DIE ÄRZTE

Die Ärzte are a German rock band based out of Berlin. Next to the Düsseldorf band Die Toten Hosen, they are among the most commercially successful German music acts with roots in the punk-rock scene. Founded in 1982, they temporarily dissolved in 1988 at the height of their success. The founding members Farin Urlaub (wordplay on "Fahr in Urlaub" = "Go on Vacation") and Bela B (an homage to Bela Lugosi) then reunited in 1993, at which point they were joined by Rodrigo "Rod" González as the final permanent member of the trio.

Although they emerged from the German punk-rock scene of the late 1970s, their musical style has evolved drastically since the early days of the band and is not easily pinned down. Early influences of pop-punk and rockabilly gave way to experimentation with other genres, particularly after their reunification in the 1990s. The red thread that ties it all together has been the sense of humor in their lyrics – often juvenile, but at other times elevated and characterized by sharp wit and elaborate wordplay.

This is not a complete list of Ärzte albums, but it does span their career so far. Albums not included in this list were mostly live-albums and their Unplugged-album. In addition, any albums that were solely sold at concerts were not included either. Personal favorites are marked with an asterisk (*).
